For this purpose we analyze biogenic and anthropogenic factors (e.g. measurements of allergens and putative protective mediators in outdoor air: determination of the exposome including the microbiome). Our aim is to identify risk factors and to develop preventive strategies to avoid or prevent harmful environmental influences. On the other hand, target structures for the therapy of allergic-inflammatory diseases are to be identified. In this context, we focus on non-allergenic, adjuvant mediators from pollen, which are both pro-inflammatory and immunomodulatory. Clinical focus The main focus of the clinical work is the holistic treatment of environmentally related diseases. This is mainly done in the Outpatient Clinic for Environmental Medicine at Augsburg Hospital. Chronic inflammatory skin diseases such as neurodermatitis, autoinflammation syndromes and psoriasis are treated in special consultations in cooperation with the Department of Dermatology at Augsburg Hospital and the Clinic and Polyclinic for Dermatology and Allergology, Technical University of Munich. Another focus is on HIV medicine and HIV-associated dermatoses and tumors. Patients are seen and treated at the interdisciplinary Center for HIV Medicine at Rechts der Isar (IZAR).
